Taking orders for 2010 chickens - NOW

We haveclosed  the order book for 2010, but we always carry a few spares, so don't be afraid to call us, or come and see us at the market on Saturday mornings.

All our chickens come dressed, cleaned and oven ready.

They look just like 'the real thing'- except they taste a whole lot better!

They are processed locally, and are available the same day that we pick them up. It doesn't get any fresher than that!

If you can face it , please come and visit us to see your chickens, and in fact all your meat, being grown.

Numbers are limited, so you have to order your birds early, so we can include you in our total numbers. There will be very few available 'on spec'

Pastured Poultry

Our chickens are tender and plump with well formed white breast meat.

They are raised right here in our meadows on fresh clean pastures and locally purchased whole grains, free of any medications or additives other than natural minerals.

They are wonderful baked or grilled as it lets the full flavor of a home raised chicken stand alone.

They are also great in any chicken recipe and make a healthy alternative to processed meats for sandwiches.

Many people try these chickens for the health benefits but the reason people come back is because of the taste.

It's like comparing a July tomato picked fresh from your garden to one purchased at the grocery store in January.

There is just nothing like chicken raised on pasture but then if you've never had it, you wouldn't know!

A chicken's life:

The chicks are picked up from the local hatchery at hatching and then placed in a warm brooder on a bed of cedar chips.

By two weeks of age, the chicks have grown feathers and are ready to be placed in the main barn.

The barn is there for their protection/shelter but they are usually to be found outside where they can access fresh grass constantly and all the insects they could want.

That is what really makes pasture poultry taste so good and is what adds extra nutrients.

Studies have shown that the carotene (the stuff that makes carrots orange) in the grass produces a non-saturated fat that is full of omega-3 and low in cholesterol.

They are also fed our own custom feed mix that is free from any chemicals, hormones or antibiotics.

Processing:

By 10 to 12 weeks of age, our chickens are ready to be processed locally before being packaged.

You can purchase your chickens either whole or cut in half. Our birds average seven to eight pounds.

The larger ones are great for baking or cooking on the rotisserie.  The smaller ones are best for frying.

At this age, they are all exceptionally tender so you can cook any of them, any way you choose.
